AED Grants – Grants for Automated External Defibrillators
Are you looking for grant money to fund the purchase of an AED (automated external defibrillator)? First it’s important to understand where to look and secondly how to apply. In the bigger scope of things, there are primarily two sources where nearly all grants come from; government grants and foundational grants. As their names imply, government grants come from federal, state and local governments, while foundational grants come from private foundations. While both are equally as effective, each have their pros and cons.
Government AED Grants
So how does one go about finding a grant for the purchase of an aed? Well that all depends on if you qualify for government aed grants. Typically, government grants are for businesses and governments, but will from time to time grant money to private parties. For example, a quick search for Government Grants at grants.gov uncovered an aed grant for “Rural Access to Emergency Devices”. This defibrillator grant is explained on the website as follows:
Awards will be made to community partnerships. These partnerships are defined as a consortium of first reponders (e.g., EMS, Law Enforcement and Fire Departments)and local for-profit and nonprofit entities that may include but are not limited, to long-term care facilities, rural health clinics, community health centers, post offices, libraries and other civic centers, athletic facilities, senior organizations applying as a community partnership.
Foundational Defibrillator Grants
Foundational grants come from private foundations and are generally much more broad in scope than a government grant might be. A great place to look for a foundation or a private grant for an AED would be fdncenter.org. While this is a subscription based site, don’t lose heart. Oftentimes a regional library will subscribe and provide free access to the directory. Here’s where you will need to put your creative thinking cap on. If you can present a compelling case why your organization should qualify for an AED defibrillator grant and as long as it is in the general scope of the grant guidelines, the possibilities are endless.
AED Tax Credit & Tax Incentives for Defibrillators
Unfortunately, while many states have proposed tax credits for aeds and defibrillator tax incentives, to date only one state (New York) has been able to push it through. Infact they have even expanded the program! Here is a link to download the application for an AED Defibrillator Tax Credit. Way to go NY for offering a $500 tax credit towards the puchase of an Automated External Defibrillator.
