Your local Health Department should offer this course for a small fee.
It would be a good idea to have this certification. While babysitting, anything could happen.

yes I believe it is essential. If you are caring for a child and that child gets hurt, it is important for you to know how to react and what to do while you are responsible for that child. You will also find it easier to get a job as a babysitter if the parents know you have this training.

There's no legal requirement, but it's obviously a good idea. The British Red Cross runs a first aid course designed specifically for babysitters - if you contact your local Red Cross branch they should be able to point you in the right direction, or their national first aid helpline number 0870 170 9222.

Yes, yes, and YES!!!! Of course. It is essential that you take a First Aid course before becoming an official babysitter. For instance, if the baby starts to choke, cough excessively, or has an allergic reaction to food, you need to know what to do if an emergency takes place. Type in First Aid training classes on Google and click on the first couple of links. Not at the very top, like the ads, but the ones that are below the first 2 links. I am a babysitter. Once, my friend's little sister started to choke on a grape, and I whacked her on the back right where her spinal cord starts. The grape became unlodged out of her windpipes, and she started to breathe normally again. If something tragic happens to a child, you want to know how to act and come to their rescue. Who knows? First Aid training can help you help save someone's life.
