Is First Aid Training Necessary To Provide Help In Rescue Operation?
It is cumpulsory to have first aid training , for providing rescue unless one is a doctor. My question is that if their is a disaster in the neighbourhood should I start helping or wait for trained persons to reach on sight.

you can help just make sore you do not go beyond what your level of training etc allows. if you do start to help someone just be sure you dint walk off and leave them as you maybe could be sued for abandonment. common sence and treating someone like you would want to be treated go a long ways in doing what you should

Y NOT HELP IT ALSOWAYS GOOD TO HAVE C.P.R AND FIRST AID RESUE GOOD LUCK

In the USA and most of Canada you are protected by the “Good Samaritan” or something to that nature (eg.Quebec) and therefore you can not be sued especially if you are certified in first-aid. if you have first aid you can’t be held liable for negligence for sure.
Please look up the Good Samaritan act on the net to find out more.
So the short answer to you question is no probably not but you need to double check the exact laws for your area.
Only in Quebec do you have to help someone if they need it
In British Columbia the above only applies to a child.
One last thing you need to ask permission before you can help someone, if they say no then you have to wait until they go unconscious and then you can help them

In this age of frivelous law suits, people are afraid to help for fear of being sued. Even fire departments, ambulances and doctors will chase you away after they arrive on scene. They have better law suit insurance. But if it were you, would you want to lay stuck, injured and ignored till help came. Even verbal assurance that help is coming is better than nothing. If there is further danger, like a burning car, or debris about to fall, your life is in danger too, but professional help may not arrive in time. I would say do what you can, but I’m not law suit worthy, (broke), they cant get much from me.

agree with previous post…basic first aid is good to know just for yourself … it can’t hurt to know how to perform basic first aid…

if there is a disaster, is always then key. Proper knowledge of first aid is always beneficial, no matter the situation. Doctors and other workers are already trained in life support for rescue work in emergency situations. If its about knowing when you can move the in injured, how to bind a wound, then you’d want to do it correctly, so as not to endanger anyone.
So in a world of sue happy individuals, you’d be best off to have some proper training behind you when you are helping someone. I think that’s the bottom line.

helping in times of disaster,like lifting,carrying people and helping fire personnel does not require prior training..but first-aid training is reqd in resque operations, lifting by ropes,tying knots [reef knot etc],..giving artificial respiration,mouth to mouth resuscitation etc you should know how to kill different fires -,oil,chemical, etc

To all those who responded by bringing up the possibility of lawsuits…..the good Samaritan law protects you from those. The fire department does not “chase you from the scene” because of better liability protection…we do so because #1 we work with each other on a daily basis and know what we’re each capable of and know what our certifications are #2 many times civilians do not know know the local protocols for patient care #3 often they are more hindrance than help and may actually harm the patient #4 they aren’t familiar with our equipment (where it is, how it’s used)
Yes, you can help if there is a disaster. When trained professionals arrive they will take over patient care but may ask for your help. As long as you do as they direct the good Samaritan law will protect you.
