What Happens If You Do Cpr On Someone Who Has A Pulse?
My mentaly ill neighbor pretends to be a fireman and years ago he tried to do cpr on me even though i was just fine. P.S. I was about 7 and he was about 45 with severe brain disorders. What can happen?

Broken ribs, bruised heart, heartbeat irregularities, punctured lungs. If prolonged, full-force CPR to someone with pulse, may cause arrhythmia and possible death.
But you are fine. So you tell us.

CPR can break your ribs, and the ribs can go into the heart and lungs. It can also disrupt or even stop your heartbeat, which can be fatal. That’s why you don’t do CPR until you’ve checked for a pulse and confirmed there wasn’t one.

Well in some case people with a pulse still need cpr if they are choking or cant breath and such nothing should happen to you if you are given cpr when you do not need it but it is always wise to know when it is needed
Three Parts of CPR
The three basic parts of CPR are easily remembered as “ABC”: A for airway, B for breathing, and C for circulation.
* A is for airway. The victim’s airway must be open for breathing to be restored. The airway may be blocked when a child loses consciousness or may be obstructed by food or some other foreign object. In a CPR course, participants learn how to open the airway and position the child so the airway is ready for rescue breathing. The course will include what to do to clear the airway if you believe an infant or child has choked and the airway is blocked.
* B is for breathing. Rescue breathing is begun when a child isn’t breathing. Someone performing rescue breathing essentially breathes for the victim by forcing air into the lungs. This procedure includes breathing into the victim’s mouth at correct intervals and checking for signs of life. A CPR course will review correct techniques and procedures for rescuers to position themselves to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to infants, children, and adults.
* C is for circulation. Chest compressions can sometimes restore circulation. Two rescue breaths should be provided and followed immediately by cycles of 30 chest compressions and 2 rescue breaths. It is not necessary to check for signs of circulation to perform this technique. This procedure involves pushing on the chest to help circulate blood and maintain blood flow to major organs. A CPR course will teach you how to perform chest compressions in infants, children, and adults and how to coordinate the compressions with rescue breathing.

Nothing really, unless you are prevented from actually breathing or a few broken ribs at worst. Though your neighbor doesn’t sound as though he would be trained. Even if he was he may not carry out the proper requirement. Why am I even answering this ?

CPR when started may crack your sternum, if you were to need CPR and your regained your pulse and the rate is under 40 then CPR continues until your pulse is over 40. since it’s been years I think you’ll be fine.

Why do you allow him to even get close to you to do this to you? Knowing what you do about him, stay away from him. If you were to let him do CPR on you, you could have broken ribs, a contusion to your heart with rhythm disturbances if you did have a contusion and several other injuries.

What a terrible story? Where was the responsible adult in this situation? It is obviously clear that you survived, so glad to hear. Thanks to everyone else for the input on what could happen.
