If you are non-medical, then no, there are no laws governing when you stop. You are under no obligation to administer CPR in the first place. However, if you know how to do it, and you come across somebody who has has an arrest, then you should check if they are breathing and have a pulse, then begin chest compressions. Make sure though that you kept somebody to call 999 so that help will arrive soon. If there is nobody around then ring 999 first then start CPR.
don’t let fears about the law stop you from potentially saving a life!
