Purchasing a kit would be your best bet. Not a tiny kit, not a huge kit. And you can reference the Mayo Clinic on the web for general first aid solutions.
Where do you get a kit? You can get one on the web, at Walmart, or at COSTCO. I have a large kit, but I do rough work so I need stuff around. If you are really concerned and that is valid, you can get training from the Red Cross for around $45. Kits don't have every single thing either so you may have to pick up this or that to supplement your stuff.
